Our observance of Lent should lead us towards others as well.\n\n\n\nThe act of putting on ashes symbolises our mortality and our dependence on God’s mercy, and reminds us of the attitude of penance to which we are called during Lent. The smudge of ash on our foreheads speaks to our yearning to grow closer to Christ, knowing that in him there is eternal life.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
