As part of their faith deepening and formation activities, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion serving the Church Of Divine Mercy parish and some family members took a Lenten walk from the church to the Pasir Ris beach on 27th March 2021 with the blessing of fine weather.
Preparations started the day before with the baking of unleavened bread according to the Neocatechumenal way with flour and warm water. With scripture reading from Exodus 11 and 12, the unleavened bread preparation served as a reminder of The Lord’s Institution Of The Passover and The Passion Of Jesus for all participants.
Observing safe distancing guidelines, participants set off for the walk in the early morning in separate groups of 8 people or lesser on different routes to the beach and prayed the Stations Of The Cross at pre-determined pit stops along the way. Participants also reflected silently on each station prayed throughout the journey.
The approximately 3.5km walk ended with participants Breaking The Bread with the prepared unleavened bread and Gospel reading from John Ch 21: 12 -19 reminding all that to love Jesus, we have to “feed HIS lambs, tend HIS sheep and follow HIM.”
Fellowship and further sharing were conducted over breakfast within the individual groups, with each participant hopefully blessed with a better appreciation of their faith and a deeper relationship with Jesus.
